TOWNSEND HARRIS IS PROUD TO PROVIDE AN INCLUSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

Students who are interested in pursuing a challenging program of study including honors and advanced placement courses, while having access to Instructional Support Services (ISS), will find that our team works closely with parents throughout the child’s time at Townsend Harris to ensure student needs are met and that they are on track to successfully graduate high school and attend competitive colleges.

Through services such as Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) services and related services, we embed specially designed instruction and individualized support into our curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners. Students who are looking for an accelerated curriculum and require accommodations, related services, special classroom support(s) or assistive technology, and have unique management needs as outlined in their IEP, can apply to the school to receive individualized care from our team of Instructional Support Specialists. These supports are provided in our rigorous general education classes, all of which are Honors or AP level, where all students are included. All students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in our rich extracurricular community.

Townsend Harris also offers a 2-week summer bridge program for incoming freshmen with IEPs and a daily Advisory throughout 9th grade to support the transition to high school, strengthen student executive functioning skills, and foster self-advocacy in the IEP process. Our students have also found our individualized transition services including our 11th-grade summer bridge program and 12th-grade advisory helpful in providing IEP-related support for postsecondary goals including college preparation. This is on top of what they already receive as a student at Townsend Harris.

Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition into high school, the Townsend Harris curriculum, and to strengthen the skills needed to meet the demands for post-secondary readiness. We program students purposefully and maintain consistent home contact. Our teachers engage in inquiry work and professional development regularly and are knowledgeable and equipped to meet the needs of a variety of learners.

Townsend Harris High School is a fully accessible building.
