The mission of the Townsend Harris High School Library is to serve as an inclusive hub for learning, inquiry, and personal enrichment across the school community. Guided by the standards of the American Association of School Librarians, our library media program supports students as active participants in the learning process. Students develop critical thinking skills and engage with information in ethical ways, using investigation to deepen understanding and build knowledge. In collaboration with teachers and the school community, the school librarian fosters meaningful learning experiences.
At the center of the Library Media Center is a diverse, inclusive collection that represents multiple formats and perspectives. By ensuring equitable access to information and ideas, the library supports students in evaluating, applying, and creating knowledge while promoting intellectual curiosity and lifelong growth (American Association of School Librarians, 2018).
