Biology is a laboratory-oriented course, in which the scientific processes of observation and experimentation are used to help explain the nature of life on our planet. Students will use a variety of laboratory materials to explore unity and diversity in living things.

Topics covered include life processes, biochemistry of living things, organ functions in animal and plants. reproduction in plants and animals, genetics, ecology and evolution. A written lab report is required for each lab.

It is recommended that strong Biology students who will not be continuing on in their study of Biology take the SAT II in early June. The Department offers review classes to assist students in preparing for this exam.

This one-year course terminates in a mandatory Regents Examination. Students must satisfy the New York State Regents Laboratory Requirement to be eligible to take the Regents exam. Biology classes meet six periods a week, once per per week before (0 period) the school day (from 7:30-8:15 AM).
