Overview of our Program

REQUIRED COURSES
 
Honors Biology (SLS21H and SLS22H)
This full year course fulfills the NYS Living Environment Requirement and and includes the 1200 minute NYS State required lab component.  All students must take and pass the NYS Living Environment Regents to earn the graduate.
 
Honors Regents Chemistry (SCS21H and SCS22H)
This full year course fulfills the NYS Physical Setting Requirement and and includes the 1200 minute NYS State required lab component.  All students must take and pass the NYS Chemistry Regents to earn the NYS Advanced Regents Diploma.
 
Honors Regents Physics (SPS21H and SPS22H)
This full year course fulfills the NYS Physical Setting Requirement and and includes the 1200 minute NYS State required lab component.  All students must take and pass the NYS Physics Regents to earn the NYS Advanced Regents Diploma.
 
Note:  Students who earn 90% or higher on their three Regents Exams earn a special honors endorsement in Science on their High School Diploma.
 
 
 
ELECTIVE COURSES
 
Our program is annualized. Those courses which are only taken for a single semester have been paired with another course of approximately equal difficulty.
 
Advanced Topics in Biology (SQS21HB) and Biomedical Ethics (SBS11HE)
 
Anatomy and Physiology (SBS11HA) and Genetics (SBS11TG)
 
Organic Chemistry (SCS21HC and SCS22HC) 
 
Robotics is a multi-year CTE program. 
  • Computer Aided Design (SKS61TC-SKS62TC). 
  • The Electronics and Mechanics of Robot Design (SKS63TK -SKS64TK)
  • Principles of Engineering Design (SKS65TK-SKS66TK)
 
Science Research is also a multi-year CTE program begins in the sophomore year. 
  • Sophomore Research (SQS61TJ - SQS62TJ) introduces students to hands on training in our dedicated Science Research lab which includes state-of-the-art DNA equipment including realtime PCR.  
  • Junior Research (SQS63TJ - SQS64TJ) engages students in research in local research facilities such as Memorial Sloan Kettering, NYU-Langone Medical Center, Cornell - Weil Medical Center and Queens Colleg.
  • Senior Research (SQS65TJ, SQS66TJ) prepares students for submitting and defending their research in major research competitions such as Regeneron STS, Seimens Competition, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, NYCSEF, International Science and Engineering Fair, and others.
 
In special circumstances, students may be added to the course during the junior year, if room permits.
 
 
 
ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES
  • All Advanced Placement classes are the full year courses.
  • Only Juniors and Seniors are eligible for these courses.
  • In addition to Townsend Harris credit, students who score 3 or higher on the required Advanced Placement exam in May may be awarded college credit. 
  • There is an $87 examination fee (which may be waived in cases of documented financial need.)

Advanced Placement Environmental Science (SDS21X and SDS22X) 
Note: This course will meet 6 times per week.
 
Advanced Placement Physics (SPS21X and SPS22X)

SCIENCE AT QUEENS COLLEGE
 
A wide variety of electives are available at Queens College. Students who wish to take a Queens College science course must obtain the approval of the department supervisor. Juniors may enroll is specially designated, tuition-free College Now courses (for credit). Seniors may enroll in any science course for which they have the necessary prerequisites, but assume the responsibility for paying for additional credits beyond the 3 elective credit limit.
