Set up your Google Doc in MLA

hi everyone I'm here to show you how to set up a paper in MLA format in a Google Document so first thing to do to open a Google doc right which I have here hasn't been titled yet next thing you're going to do is you're going to check your margins margins in an MLA paper are one in around the default margins in a Google doc are also one in around to always want to make sure to make sure the head change your settings so it's like two clicks to check to make sure that all of your margins are 1-inch and here they are and I just said okay now the next thing I'm going to say is going to sound a bit tongue twister e so pay attention in MLA paper right you have a header which is at the very top of the page and the header Anna. goes automatically on every page of the document right so whatever you put in the header of this Google doc will be on every page of the document and an MLA header consists of your last name and your page numbers starting with the page number one right so you can do that by going into format and scroll down to page numbers right it's going to ask you the position in the header you're going to show it on the very first page and you're going to start at number one and then we're going to click a fly and here is my pic number with the number one and it's right justified in MLA your header is always right Justified right and you have your page number but also in MLA in your header besides the page number you put your last name right so my last name with a space between my last name and the number now I'm going to venture out and stay the reason why you have this with your last name and page number is when people handed in papers physical copies of papers not electronically and yes way back in the dinosaur age we handed in our paper is a physical copies of papers if the teacher for faster dropped the papers and they scattered we could figure out whose paper was whose and the Order of the the number order of the pages so that it would be able to be put back together quicker employment you will eventually have to hand in physical copies of papers as well whether it's at Townsend Harris high school or in college some teachers still request and in physical papers so it's good to have that also part of MLA your last name and the page number now that is all that is included in the header in MLA format now we're going to talk about the heading heading only goes on page one it does not go in this header box the reason why it doesn't go on the header box because then it would be put on every page and it's not supposed to be so we're going to close that by double-clicking in the body and your heading goes but before I start typing my headache is very important for me to tell you that MLA format does not have a required font or a required on your supposed to follow the oceans of your teacher now with that said MLA requires that the font that you choose be easy to read and it's big enough size that you can read it write the standard for Emily is Times New Roman and 12th right those are the that's probably the most common Easy-to-Read font people use for Emily now also MLA is double spaced so you want to go to your line spacing and click on night so that it automatically double space the paper everything in MLA is double spaced everything in MLA including your work cited page which will be another really quick video so now I'm going to type in my heading first thing that goes is my name then goes the name of the class now I was wrong I wanted to double-check and make sure I was right or wrong and I was wrong it's not the name of the classes the name of your teacher so first goes your name then goes the name of your teacher and I am going to say it is for the best shape then comes the name of the class and then comes to date the usual format for an MLA paper for date is today the month Aaliyah right that is the heading goes on the very first page of your paper only goes on the first page of your paper then you hit answer one time double spaced right and then the title of your paper the title of your paper is Spencer and I'm going to stay title of my paper is potions in a muggle world no underline no bold no italics unless you are the title includes the name of a book so who sings in a muggle world I get an answer then I go left justify and I start my paper but since I'm starting my paper I have to indent my paragraphs or paragraphs it invented by places which is the default so I'm going to get child and then I start typing my paper this is my paper and here is I think right so with that said as I type I will have eventually to write in-text citations and at the end of my paper I need to know work cited page and those will be two separate videos but this is how you set up a paper in MLA format I also want to show you that as I continue typing right I'm just typing a whole bunch of nonsense we'll see when I get to page to hear it is Liberty fish to my heading my header is already there so it
